Letter by Letter

Letter by Letter is a short film by Pooja Saxena and Harshay Jha that takes you on a typographic tour through Bangalore’s MG Road, illuminating stories hidden behind the letterforms on signages around this bustling neighbourhood. This film was made possible with the support of Bangalore International Centre’s B•LORE Grant (2023).

MG Road is a historic, yet fast-paced and commercial area, and its signs offer a singular lens to observe the changing landscape of Bangalore, whether it is from the perspective of social and cultural inclinations, local laws and regulations, or changing technologies. Combined with meditations on materials, fabrication techniques and typographic styles, Letter by Letter paints a rich portrait of this unseen facet of the city’s public spaces.
